Join us in celebrating the Youth Organizing Councils’ (YOC) entirely youth-led summer equity experience they call Youth Engaged in Local Liberation Summer Program (Y.E.L.L.)! Their program’s goal was to engage youth in the Central Coast and Nation-wide in engaging in dialogue, honor youth experiences, and share tangible tactics on how to create change within their community!
Join Just Communities and community experts this summer in our Facebook Live Series of conversations as we talk about the effects and impact COVID-19 has had on our communities. With a lens of diversity, inclusion and equity, community partners will be invited to share about what disparities and inequalities they have seen in their fields of expertise during the pandemic. Panelists will discuss how these inequities existed prior to COVID-19 and how these gaps widened during the pandemic and offer resources for the community. These sessions will be at no cost and open to the public with Interpretation will be provided.
As Just Communities nears its 20th anniversary in the Central Coast, we’re taking this time to think about our own history, present, and future. Allowing us to contemplate what our role has been in dismantling systemic oppression in our community, and how we have helped open the door for greater diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice within school districts, nonprofit organizations, the private sector, and government agencies. Today, we are asking for your continued help in advancing our mission at a critical time.
Santa Barbara is a generous and responsive community. One need only look to the outpouring of response to the Thomas Fire and Mudslides and the response to COVID-19 to see that when an emergency rises up, people across Santa Barbara County - indeed the whole Central Coast - rise up to meet it. From individuals to nonprofit organizations to funders and donors, it is inspiring and a source of great hope to see how quickly people and resources can be mobilized to respond. Now is the time to direct the same level of intention to advancing racial justice.
